Great times as always with Fayettechill! Mo and Sam joined our entire team a few weeks ago for their annual fall photo shoot. It was super to get everyone on the river together. Of course we had a lot of laughs, good fishing and also good weather (except maybe a little too bright for Samjay on day two!).
We wrapped up our time at our favorite taco place. We would go there every day if we could.

In Search of Smallmouth…
A lot of times you will find us playing disc golf on a day off. (Jamie is determined to take it to the next level and he is putting in a lot time and effort as is his way with anything he does). But, on some days we manage to actually fish together. ( And actually, I never get a day off, but my office can be anywhere. Outside is always best. Outside and fishing is magnificent). On this particular perfectly windy fall day, we headed to a little spot in search of smallmouth. A long the way we saw a black bear, an eagle, groundhog, mink, carp, trout and ultimately, those feisty smallmouth! We each took our turn at bat and on the sticks. Of course the guides, make rowing a very long boat in high winds look like second nature. I’m not there yet. We each landed some nice ones and had a blast doing it.
The boys ended the day with tacos from our new favorite place. I ended up in the car line to pick up our little cubs. Some might think I got the short end of the stick on that deal. I think I won. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Fish happy,
Kati
Fishing Report 11.2.17
Flow: low to high depending on time of day and location
Visibility: 50 inches
Water condition: clear
Water temp at midday: 50 degrees F
Nymphing has been the best producer. Streamers on high water are working as well.
Educate yourself on how to protect redds and fish that are spawning.

Fishing Report 10.26.17
Fishing conditions: Good
Visibility: 60″
Temp at midday: 54 degrees F

Fishing Report 10.12.17
Fishing Conditions: very good
Visibility: 50 inches
Temp at midday: 54 degrees F
Water conditions: Clear to slightly stained.
We will see light sporadic generation, making for excellent drift fishing and wading on the Little Red. Nymphing has been productive on the Norfork. Streamer fishing and nymphing have been good on the White.

Fall is time for streamers. Here is a great lesson on how to cast big, heavy flies.
Fishing Report 9.28.17
LITTLE RED RIVER: Nymphing sow bugs has been dang productive. However, I am starting to see quite a few fish chase streamers during periods of cloud coverage. The Red is getting a good blast of water every afternoon making for easy floats the next day. This should continue through the week. Will post if it changes.
WHITE RIVER: Foam is still producing. When foam slows, nymphing and streamers have been doing well. The White is starting to pull back their around the clock generation. They are pulsing it a bit around 5000 cfs.
NORFORK RIVER: Water is stained. Nymphing has been good. The Norfork has stopped generating around the clock and has recently started shutting off at night.
For full report by Capt. Rouse go to: http://www.orvis.com/fishing_report.aspx?locationid=5920 (Please note that the White and Norfork have scaled back generation from the time that the report was originally submitted to Orvis as listed above).
Check out Kati’s article in the August September issue of DUN magazine! Disc golf may have gotten a mention.

Fishing conditions: good
Water flow: low to medium
Water condition: clear
Water temp at midday: 57 degrees F
Late summer fishing has been great in Arkansas. They have been trimming back generation on the Little Red with the lake being back down to pool and cooler temps across the country. Nymphing is the most productive way to fish.
The White and Norfork Rivers are also fishing well. They are still pumping quite a bit of water out of both. With that being said there are a lot of options with that kind of water.

The weather has been really hot, but so has the fishing. Enjoy the gallery and then get outside. Be sure to hydrate!

Take Me to Your River
The river is more than a weekend retreat for us. It runs through our veins. It’s a way of life, our livelihood. For me it also symbolizes change–almost 15 years ago leaving the city life and venturing to the unknown. It doesn’t always give freely with conditions that can change in the blink of an eye, making it difficult for the average bear. I am forever grateful for our Papa Bear who is way beyond the average. I’ve watched our children grow from “fishing” with us in front packs to mending their lines better than many adults.
As we continued on our Colorado journey, I was feeling the frustration of being sick and not running. (Probably the most I have not run in years. The upside was fresh legs for the couple of runs I finally felt like doing! And I found my one pair of shorts lost earlier in the trip. Winning!) I also had not had a lot of fishy time to myself. As our kids are still kids, fishing usually includes a lot of splashing and skipping rocks with obviously fewer fish. Sometimes not any fish, if you are not quick enough to get a line in before the chaos.
We haven’t really pushed our kids to fish. We want the desire to come naturally from within. One night I was going to sneak off to grab some much needed solo river time. Shortly into my hike, I realized I had company. A certain little 9 year old decided she really wanted to fish with me. At that moment I knew that this was better than the moment of solitude I was seeking. I wouldn’t give anything for our night on the river.
We wrapped up our time in Colorado with the epic stonefly hatch on the Conejos living for a moment in a tiny cabin in the middle of the fish camp full of people that plan for this hatch every year. We didn’t realize until we got there that it was happening. We couldn’t have timed it more perfectly and will be back next year–probably with many of the same people. What a special community where our kids made quick friends and rode their bikes freely through the camp.
Of course we managed to squeeze in some stellar disc golf in Beaver Creek. It was way beyond amazing. I absolutely love my group of humans and savor these adventures we have together. Each year we have a theme song. This year was Leon Bridges’ “River”.
So, forever and always, Take Me to Your River.
