Little Red River Fishing Report 1.26.17
Fishing conditions: good
Water flow: low to high on weekdays, low on weekends
Visibility: clear
Water temp at midday: 53 degrees F
Nymph bite has been strong using sowbugs, scuds and an occasional midge dropper. Also try fishing single flies with no dropper. Sometimes this works better, depending on conditions.

Make sure your flies are getting down. If needed, add split shot when nymphing. Use heavy sink tip for streamers in high water. White streamers are working well.

Dropping midges and soft hackles under a sow bug or scud has gotten awesome results.

Fishing conditions: good
Water flow: medium to high, twice daily generation
Water conditions: clear
Water temp at midday: 50 degrees F
The high is 28 on Friday. A light coat of WD-40 type product on metal guides will get you about a half day of the ice not sticking to them. Hopefully, by then your temp gets above freezing.

I always carry scissors in the boat. They come in handy when streamer fishing. I will do on the fly shaping of streamers and other flies to get the movement and profile that I want.

Breaking in the new Christmas engine. Thank you @wolfandpine for sending my new favorite shirt in time for the holidays. And thanks to Memphis Famiy Vision for the new shades. For the record the previous ones made it through 2 full marathons, one half, many fishing and hiking adventures with a little disc golf on the side prior to the accidental flushing.
On a side note you may notice the river is a bit off color. There are two reasons. The first is this was taken right after the recent rain. By the time we were getting off the river, it had already cleared some. The second is in the edits. It looked more wintry this way. The river is clear now.
Fish happy,

Fishing has been great on the Little Red and Norfork Rivers the past few weeks. Nymphing being the most productive bite. Wadable water can be found on the Little Red during the week, but it’s short lived before the next round of water hits. Sowbugs, scuds and a midge you feel confident with should do the trick.

Nymphing has been very successful the last couple of weeks. There can still be some wadable water on water flows, if you know where to go. Midges close to the bottom are working well there. Streamers on high water are productive as well. This can be applied to the Norfork as well.
When using an indicator, match indicator size and rig weight as closely as possible. the bigger the indicator, the more aggressive the take has to be for it to work well. I like using Orvis pinch on indicators for low to medium flows. Subtle takes are easily seen with the softer material. If one of the stick ons isn’t floating well enough, add a second about 3 inches behind it.

Give dead drifted nymphs and wets subtle action while wading and float fishing for vigorous strikes. Swinging size 16/18 mergers in the tailouts and riffles has been hot!
