Always good times with the FC crew!
Fished the home waters today.
In Search of Crappie
Had fun with these two on the lake searching for crappie. Perhaps a little too chilly for crappie, but came upon some bass later in the day.
SPRING FLOW IS GOING TO BE PHENOMENAL FOR THE LITTLE RED!
GREERS FERRY POWER PLANT TO UNDERGO REPAIRS
The Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District will be taking the Greers Ferry Power Plant offline March 10 through April 24 for necessary repairs.
Throughout the outage, one turbine will continuously release about 300 to 500 cubic feet per second into the Little Red River. A normal low flow rele…ase rate is 40 c.f.s. In comparison, a full power release from one turbine is about 3,500 c.f.s.
If rainfall causes the lake to rise above the conservation pool elevation of 462.04 feet, flood control releases will be made using the spillway gates. Release rates are dependent on downstream conditions and generally will not exceed the equivalent of two turbines, about 7,000 c.f.s.
Updated release rates are available by calling (501) 362-5150.
Officials at the Army Corps of Engineers’ Greers Ferry Project Office regret any inconvenience this may cause, and asks for the public’s cooperation until this operation is complete.
For more information contact the Greers Ferry Project office at (501) 362-2416, or stop by the office near the dam on Highway 25, three miles north of Heber Springs.
WEEKLY FISHING REPORT 2.24.14
Water flow: medium
Visibility: 52 inches
Water temperature at mid-day: 52 Degrees F
Water condition: Clear
Best time of day to fish: Depends on water level and generation.
The streamer bite has been cranking when you get the correct generation.
I would imagine we will start seeing lighter generation as the days get milder and we do not have rain.

FALL RAINBOW STEALS THE SHOW!
On a recent day with Dr. Jim Albright, one of my best clients, and Dr. Adam Goddard, we had one of those days that was EPIC! To see some more cool pics from this day, check out our Instagram @jrouseflyfish.
COLORADO. YOU BETTER GET YOU SOME!
Here are some cool pics from our adventure to Colorado. We met 8 of our peeps out there after Matt and me drove out with our driftboats and teamed up with Herb from Yampa Valley Anglers. We had an unbelievable time. All 8 of our folks are going back for Summer 2014. Due to the great success, we are adding a second week. This trip will be priced right. Let us know if you are interested. Spots are already getting filled. –Jamie
The Boss of the Moss
I had Loren Roberts a few weeks ago. What a blast! We were able to chase down some really nice rainbows
Dry Run Fun!
We took a group of young men from St. George’s in Memphis, TN to Dry Run Creek for an Arkansas Fly Fishing Experience. Here are a couple of pics from that day.
As you can tell, fly fishing for Arkansas Rainbows has been phenomenal. For that matter, fishing for browns has been pretty dang good, too!
AND THEN THIS HAPPENED…
We spent the last couple of weeks hanging around the White and Norfork waiting for shad. Generally, this time of year, generation from the dams is the norm, but, of course, this year has been different. We were there to take advantage of small blasts of water. It defininitely brought some nice fish to the boat using a variety of techniques (including a new one for streamers). We were wrapping up our annual winter trip with the St. Louis boys on Sunday. We started the day with heavy rains, no generation, and then this happened…
STREAMER CLASS
Two weeks ago Jamie, Matt and I put on a streamer class in conjunction with “The Toad Fly” fly shop in Conway, AR. It was broken into two days, one day in The Toad Fly going over all that makes up streamer fishing. Then the second day was spent on the water putting all the new info to the test.
We had a great group of guys at the class. For the day on the water I had Alex and Larry in my boat. The boys were fired up to fish plus Tim Bull, owner of The Toad Fly, put a Yeti cooler up for grabs for biggest fish of the day. Most everyone in the class was new to the streamer game and let me tell you, they picked it up very quickly.
The guys handled and tried multiple streamer set ups with good skill. When we found the right rig the guys lit it up about as well as I’ve seen for the first time out. Everyone successfully caught fish with some nice browns in the mix!
Thanks to Tim and the guys for such a great weekend! Looking forward to next time.
–Tony

GUIDES’ DAY OFF: A PHOTO ESSAY
Last week, Matt, Tony, and I took off for the Norfork River to do a float trip in Matt’s new little drifter. Man, we had a blast! We decided to spend the day on a new streamer technique. The river absolutely came to life for us. We lost count of the numbers of quality trout that came to the boat. Enjoy! –Jamie

Sweet Sweetness
RAINBOWS ARE STEALING THE SHOW!
As many of you know, fall was shaping up to be a strange one - low water, no generation on the heels of a drought, and high water temps this past summer. However, there are sections of the river with “alpha” rainbows galore. Some of these fish are reaching massive sizes – going through equipment making the experienced angler look like a newbie. This has been the silver lining that most are unaware. If you get a chance, you need to come try this. Oh yeah, did I mention we are catching some really nice browns in the pursuit of these thumper rainbows? –Jamie
