Tuesday Tip: Four Tips on Tippets - orvis.com/news
Great start to Colorado 2014! Nice pike and rainbow in the Yampa Valley.
Our Colorado Adventure
We just spent the last few days in Flat Tops. The elevation is around 12,500 at its highest point. We camped at around 10000, but went up to do a little hiking, fishing, and running. Jamie and Thomas caught a couple of trout. We all hiked and then I was able to go for a marvelous run! It is absolutely breathtaking. The Bear Lake Campground is pristine.
Yesterday, walking alone back to our camp, I saw what I first thought was a deer. I then realized it was a moose, once it’s mother stepped out onto the road behind her calf. They are huge and extremely tall!!!! I have seen them before from a distance in Alaska. These two were roughly thirty feet from me. We stared at each other for what seemed like a couple of minutes. I backed slowly away and stopped when I heard Thomas calling for me. I apparently lost all intelligence and begin yelling to Jamie. All that came out was “Animals! Big!” The moose, totally unimpressed and not threatened, escorted her babe across the road. What an amazing experience!
Jamie will do a test float later today with Herb. Tomorrow we will be heading to Eagle Rock for the next several days staying in a cabin and then on for some more camping as we head back home the first week in July. We are having a blast!
Road Trip!
Capt. Rouse and I made a quick trip to Supreme Boats to pick up the new Predator drift boat. It will be making the journey to Colorado next week! The drive was beautiful and we had a blast. Rob Williams is the owner of Supreme, Shawnee, and Predator and has just moved into a new warehouse where they manufacture the boats that JRFFA uses exclusively. Jamie had to inspect the riverboats, of course. He is contemplating the 16 foot Shawnee for his next.
As a side note, Capt. Rouse looks quite sporty in the Rouse by fayettechillco, and I really would have loved to take the VW bus with us! The bus was not for sale.
Rob has been super to work with–always ready to try new things to make our jobs easier on the water.

Had a great day with the O'Dea brothers!
Colorado, Here We Come!
Looking forward to heading out next week for Steamboat Springs. We are going to load up the family, bikes, tent, and driftboat for our summer adventure. We will camp along the way. First stop will be somewhere in Kansas. Jamie and I have begun to research where exactly in Kansas we might camp, and have a couple of possibilities. Any suggestions are welcome! Second camp spot will be once we cross into Colorado. Then JRFFA will team up with Herb of Yampa Valley Anglers hosting our clients on some great fishing. The kids and I will do some major exploring, of course, bike riding and a little fishing on our own. We will then stay a bit longer for some fun family time. This will be the kids’ first time to Colorado and my first time to be there in the summer! I can’t wait! Apparently, Allie can’t either. She has already packed her bag with enough clothes to last for a month including useful outdoor wear like dresses and dress up shoes. I will keep you posted as we embark on our journey! Happy Monday!
It’s going to be an awesome trip!
Good times with fayettechillco! Awesome video! We spent a full day on the Little Red River with fly fisherman and river captain, Jamie Rouse. Matt Milner, Jamie’s first mate, was on board as well. A day on the river is not just about catching fish. It’s about the experience, the memories that are made, and lessons that the river teaches you.

SMALLIE SMACKDOWN
Last week Paul, Eddie, and I decided to do a sneak attack on a creek we will call “Red Goat”. The Predator drift boat went along for the adventure. We found a place to slide it down a trail, shoved off, and the float was official. The big unknown was whether or not there would be any fish. We instantly knew the answer. One small mouth after another started to come to the boat . When things couldn’t get anymore crazy, we started wacking really strong solid rainbows. The show stoppers were the stud smallies. This was one of those days that was incredibly special and reminds me of why I do what I do.
This shirt turned out really cool! Loving all the cool gear from fayettechillco! The Rouse button down is named after our FC athlete Jamie Rouse. Some of our employees are out fly fishing with him this weekend and I couldn’t be more pleased with how this pattern and color turned out.
