SHAD KILL
This past weekend Jamie and I got the chance to guide a group of guys on the Norfork for a few days. The plan was to fish the White River, but when shad started spitting through the Norfork we had to make the jump. Pretty much for two days straight we just straight up beat up on them. The top water bite was killer. In fact all day Saturday you didn’t even need a dropper! We had several guys whack out grand slams both days. It just does not get a whole lot cooler than that! These fish were puking shad out but still trying to eat more! There is no way to really plan on fishing a shad kill, but it’s certainly something worth trying if the sun, moon and stars align. It can be magical.–Matt
Just wanted to give a little credit to our inside informant, Kristopher Bouldin, from Tailwaters Guide Service. He’s the one that informed me that the last time the Norfork had run water during the day, he had seen shad coming through and to be watching if they turned on at 10 a.m. our first morning there like they were scheduled.
Kristopher is one of the only guides we recommend for the White and the Norfork when our team can’t make it up there. He is a great guide, an incredible guy, and a good friend of JRFFA. –Jamie
